What is a Dream?

Having a dream is the combination of thoughts, images and feelings. We are all expected to have two hours of dreams each night. But, some dreamers imagine their dreams to be longer than this.

Theories of the role of dreams

In the past two centuries, many theories about dreams have been proposed. These theories stem from the belief that dreams are the manifestations within the human brain. a psychological process that occurs in the REM phase of sleep.

During this time, the conscious part of the brain is busy processing memory. The result is a stream from memory storage which flow through the conscious portion of brain. This theory is often referred as the theory of continuous activation.

Another theory, known as stimulation response theory recognises the notion that dreams are a kind of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams represent dreams that do not meet in the real world.

The theory of threat simulation proposes that dreams are used to serve an evolutionary goal. In the REM stage of sleep the amygdala, which is a component of the fight-or-flight part of the brain, triggers similar for a survival situation. This would have conferred the evolutionary benefit of prepping the human body to face potentially harmful events.

REM stage

The term REM (or rapid eye) movement, is an important factor when it's time to rest. In the twilight hours brain uses the most of its resources by recalling things it's not learned during the daytime. One example is the male sexifier. This time of year, the Octavet is in its peak that is why it is when you should be near your significant other.

The REM area is also an area that is home to many of popular brainwaves from every day, including more esoteric ones. The most notable REM-bound occupants include insomniacs and depressed types. Incredibly, a study from the past found that depressed people tend to be more restful and for longer lengths of time. This can be due to a number of factors, the most obvious one being the fact that they have an adolescent.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be terrifying experience. The majority of them are accompanied by other unpleasant emotions. They can happen frequently as well as regularly. They may also be triggered through anxiety or trauma. In some cases they may even be caused by medical conditions.

The first step in resolving your nightmares is to know the way they function. The theme of a dream can be affected by a various factors, such as how the dreamer is feeling, the subject of a prior dream, stories, and the other events in the dreamer's life.

In some cases the dreamer has the ability to actively influence the content of the dream, which includes the outcome. It can be done by a variety of methods however, the most common technique is to practice a new version of the nightmare prior going to sleep.

Latent content

What is unspoken and unexplained content that is present in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud said that dreams and latent content are interrelated. He also compared dreams with an iceberg. There's a part of the iceberg that can be seen above water, as well as the portion that is hidden below the surface.

Freud believed that there were three different parts to the mind. This is at the high point, while those who are unconscious and inactive are at the lowest. In his opinion, the most effective method of looking into the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two types to dream material: manifest and latent. This latter type includes the actual dream content as well as the meaning of it. In most cases, it's a mixture of memory fragments and symbolic events. In the theory of physics it's possible to translate the content that is visible into the latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom on dreaming is that dreams are wish-fulfilling. This implies that all people are neurotic. Additionally, Freud stated that dreams cannot be real, but that they serve as a substitute for reality.

The dream's content is divided into two different parts that are the manifest and the latent. The manifest component is the actual content of the dream, while the latent part is the hallucinatory part associated with the dream. The content that is manifest can be attributed to processing information. The hidden contents are desires and other forms of hallucination.

There are four ways to conceal the latent dream. These are displacement, decryption transfers, decryption, and disguise. The first is displacement. It occurs when a person who is dreaming swaps the elements of his or her dreams with parts of the dream. It's due to the weakness of the sleep brain.
