What's a Dream?

A dream is the collection of images, thoughts, and emotions. Each one of us is believed to experience about two hours of sleep every at night. However, there are some who believe that their dreams are longer than this.

Theories about the function of dreams

In the last two centuries, a variety of dream theories have been developed. These theories are based upon the idea that dreams are the manifestations from the brain. which is a psychological phenomenon that occurs during the REM phase of sleep.

In this phase, the unconscious brain is in the process of processing memory. This results in a data stream of memories that circulates through the conscious portion in the brain. This is sometimes referred to as the theory of continuous activation.

Another theory, the stimulus response theory, acknowledges the reality that dreams are a form of wish-fulfillment. The reason for this is that dreams represent desires that are not met in real life.

The theory of threat simulation proposes that dreaming serves an evolutionary purpose. When you are in the REM stage of sleep the amygdala(a part within the fight-orflight area of your brain, activates similarly as it does during a situation of survival. This would have provided the evolutionary advantage of preparing your body for fearsome circumstances.

REM stage

REM, also known as rapid eye movement, is the name of the game when it comes time to fall asleep. In this sleep-like state brain uses the most use of its resources returning to the traits it's not yet learned in its normal daytime. One example is the sexifier. This time of year, the Octavet is at its best at this point, making it the ideal time for being near your significant other.

The REM enclosure is also home to many of the popular brainwaves from every day, including more obscure ones. The most prominent occupants of the REM enclave are insomniacs, depressed types and depressed. A recent study has shown that depression sufferers tend to sleep more often and for longer durations of time. This could be due to a range of factors, the most obvious one being the fact that they have an adolescent.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be terrifying experience. They are usually accompanied by other unpleasant emotions. They may occur frequently or in a pattern. They can also be caused by trauma or anxiety. In some instances it is possible that they are caused by medical conditions.

First step to stop your nightmares is to understand how they function. The theme of a dream could be influenced by a many factors, such as emotions of the dreamer as well as the topic of a previous dream, the recent news, or other events on the horizon of the dreamer's.

In some instances an individual can manipulate the content of a dream, including the outcome. This can be accomplished in many ways one of the most popular methods is to try to recreate a changed version of the nightmare before going to sleep.

Latent content

The question of whether there is unspoken and unexplained content that is present in dreams is the subject of debate. Freud believed that these two are inextricably linked. He also linked dreams to an iceberg. There's an area of an iceberg that can be glimpsed above the surface of the water but the remainder is hidden below the surface.

Freud believed that there are three distinct parts to the mind. It is the conscious brain that's the high point while the unconscious and latent mind are the lowest. For him, the best method to see the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two kinds and types of contents in the dream: latent and manifest. The latter is the actual dream content along with the significance of it. Often, it is a mixture of memory fragments and a sequence of symbolic events. In theory, there is a possibility to transform information that is present into latent.

Freud's Axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom about dreaming is that dreaming is a wish fulfilled. It implies that all individuals are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams don't exist, but they're just a replacement for reality.

The content of a dream is split into two parts which are the manifest and latent. It is the manifest that is the actual content, while the latent one is the hallucinatory aspect that is the result of dreams. The content that is manifest comes from processing information. The hidden contents are desires and various other forms of hallucination.

There are four methods that obscure the dream. They are: decryption, displacement transference, disguise, and decryption. The first is displacement. It occurs when a person who is dreaming swaps the elements of his or her dream for the same components in the dream-thoughts. It's due to the weak control of the sleep brain.
