What is a Dream?

Having a dream is the cycle of images, ideas and emotions. Everyone is expected to go through about 2 hours of dreams per night. However, there are some who believe their dreams to be more than this.

Theories of the functions of dreams

In the past two centuries, numerous dream theories have been formulated. These theories are based on the premise that dreams are the manifestations of the brain, a psychological phenomenon that takes place in the REM stage of sleep.

In this time, the conscious part of the brain is busy processing memory. It results in a stream of memories that travels through the conscious part within the brain. This is known as the continual activation theory.

Another theoryis called the stimulus response theory, acknowledges the existence of dreams as a type of wish-fulfillment. This is due to the fact that dreams symbolize wishes that aren't fulfilled in real life.

The theory of threat simulation proposes that dreams serve an evolutionary motive. In the REM stage of sleep the amygdalawhich is part of the fight-or-flight part of the brainresponds similarly to the response to a threat to survival. This would have been an evolutionary advantage in preparing the body for potentially dangerous situations.

REM stage

The term REM (or rapid eye) movement, is one of the main goals in the realm of sleep. In this sleep-like state where the brain makes most of its resources by recalling things it's not learned during its daytime hours. For instance, the sexifier. In this period, the Octavet is at its peak at this point, making it the most ideal time to be with your spouse.

The REM space is also home to many of most notable brainwaves of our time, not just the more esoteric ones. The most prominent occupants in REM are insomniacs, depressed types and depressed. A recent study found that depressed people tend to sleep more frequently and for longer periods of time. This can be due to a number of factors, one of the most obvious being that they have an adolescent daughter.

Nightmares

Dreams can be a terrifying experience. It is usually followed by other unpleasant emotions. They may occur frequently or often. They can also be caused by anxiety or trauma. In certain cases, they can even be caused by medical conditions.

The first step in controlling your nightmares is to know the way they function. The dream's subject can be influenced by a range of elements, including emotions of the dreamer and the subject of the prior dream, news, and even other events related to the dreamer's daily life.

In some instances the dreamer may be able to actively alter the meaning of a dreams, including the outcomes. This can be accomplished using a variety an effective way is to practice a rewritten version of the nightmare prior to falling asleep.

Latent content

If there is the underlying and hidden meanings in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud has argued that the two are inextricably linked. He also said that dreams are an Iceberg. There's a part of the iceberg that could be seen above the water but the remainder is hidden under the surface.

Freud believed there were three components to the mind. This is the most prominent part of an iceberg, while Latent and unconscious minds are at the bottom. They believed the best method of looking into the unconscious was through dreams.

There are two kinds of dream content: manifest and latent. The latter contains the actual content of the dream along with the significance of it. The majority of the time, it's composed of memory fragments and a set of symbolic events. In theory it's possible to transform the manifest content into the latent.

Freud's Axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom on dreaming refers to dreams as wish-fulfillments. It implies that all individuals are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams aren't real, but they're just a replacement for reality.

The dream's content is split into two parts both the visible and the latent. The manifest part contains the real content, and the latent part is the hallucinatory part associated with the dream. The content that is manifest arises as a result of information processing. The hidden contents are desires as well as other types of hallucination.

Four mechanisms can obscure the dream. They are: decryption, displacement transmission, concealment, and transference. The first is displacement. It occurs when a person who is dreaming substituting elements from his or its dream with components in the dream-thoughts. It's dependent on the weak control of the sleeping brain.
