What's in a Dream?

A dream is the collection of images, thoughts and feelings. We are all expected for 2 hours of dreams per at night. However, some dreamers think their dreams to be longer than this.

Theories about the function of dreams

In the last two centuries, several theories about dreams have been proposed. These theories have their roots in the belief that dreams are manifestations within the human brain. a psychological process that takes place in the REM phase of sleep.

The unconscious part of the brain is busy processing memory. This results in a data stream of memory stored that flow through the conscious portion of brain. This theory is often referred as the theory of continual activation.

Another theory, the"stimulus responses theory" recognizes the existence of dreams as a form of wish-fulfillment. It is because dreams are wants that aren't met in real life.

The threat simulation theory suggests that dreams have an evolutionary function. During the REM phase of sleep, the amygdalawhich is part of the section known as the fight or flight part of the brain, fires similarly as it does during a situation of survival. This could have given the evolutionary benefit of preparing your body for fearsome incidents.

The REM stage

The term REM (or rapid eye) movement, is what we call it when it comes the time to go to sleep. As the night draws in brains make the most of its available resources by making it easier to learn new things that it's not taught during its active hours. One example is the sexifier. During this time, the Octavet is at its greatest and this is also the best time to be around your significant other.

The REM enclave is also where you can find the top brainwaves in our time, not just the more esoteric ones. The most prominent occupants in REM include insomniacs as well as depressed types. It is interesting to note that a recent study confirms that those suffering from depression tend to fall asleep more frequently and for longer lengths of time. This is due in part to a multitude different factors, the most obvious being that they have an adolescent.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be frightening experience. They're often associated with other unpleasant emotions. They may occur frequently or regularly. They may also be triggered by stress or trauma. In some instances they may be associated with medical conditions.

The first step to repressing your nightmares is to understand how they function. The subject of dreams can be influenced by a number of factors, including how the dreamer is feeling, the subject of a prior dream, current news, as well as other happenings in the dreamer's life.

In some instances, a dreamer can actively alter the meaning of a dream, including the outcome. It can be done in many ways However, a typical method is to practice a rewritten version of the dream before falling asleep.

Latent content

If there is unspoken and unexplained content that is present in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud believed that these two are inextricably connected. He also described dreams as an Iceberg. There is a part of the iceberg , which can be perceived above the water and the rest is hidden beneath the surface.

Freud believed that there were three different parts to the mind. In the mind of conscious, it is the uppermost part, while the subconscious and latent mind are at the bottom. They believed the best method of observing the unconscious was through dreams.

There are two kinds of dream content: latent and manifest. The latter includes the actual content of dreams along with the significance of it. Often, it is made up of memory fragments along with a sequence of symbolic events. In the theory of physics it's feasible to transform the manifest content into the latent.

Freud's Axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom on dreaming is that dreams can be described as wish-fulfilling. This suggests that everyone are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams are not realand they're a way to substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is divided into two components of the dream - the actual and the latent. The manifest content is the actual content, and the latent is the hallucinatory aspect that is the result of dreams. The manifest content comes from processing information. The hidden contents are desires and various other forms of hallucination.

There are four mechanisms that obscure the dream. These are decryption, displacement transfers, decryption, and disguise. The first one is displacement. It happens when a sleeper swaps the elements of his or dreams with similar parts of the dream. It's caused by the weak control of the sleeping brain.
