Is it a Dream?

A dream is a collection of images, thoughts and emotions. Every one of us is expected to have two hours each at night. Some dreamers believe their dreams to be more than this.

Theories on the function of dreams

In the last two centuries, various dream theories have been developed. These theories are based on the notion that dreams are manifestations to the brain. a psychological phenomenon that takes place in the REM phase of sleep.

During this time, the unconscious part of the brain is busy processing memory. This results in a data stream of memories which flow through the conscious portion of our brain. This is sometimes called the continuous activation theory.

Another theory, called the stimulus response theory, acknowledges the dream as a form of wish-fulfillment. The reason is that dreams can be thought of as desire that is not fulfilled in real life.

The threat simulation theory suggests that dreams are a way to evolve. In the REM phase of sleep, the amygdala(a part belonging to the part that controls the fight or flight section of the brainresponds similarly in response to threats to survival. This would have offered an evolutionary advantage in preparing the human body for threatening situations.

The REM stage

REM, also known as rapid eye movement is the word to use when it comes to sleeping. At night your brain makes the most use of its resources revisiting the skills it did not learn in its waking hours. For instance, the gender sexifier. When this is the time, the Octavet is at its best at this point, making it the most ideal time to be with your beloved.

The REM space is also home to many of most well-known brainwaves of every day, including more mysterious ones. The most notable REM-bound occupants include insomniacs and depressed types. The study shows that depressed types tend to stay asleep more often as well as for longer durations of time. This could be due to a range various factors, the first and most obvious being that they're an adolescent.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be frightening experience. They're often associated with other unpleasant feelings. They may occur frequently or in a pattern. They may also be triggered by trauma or anxiety. In certain cases they could even be associated with medical conditions.

First step to stop your nightmares is to understand how they work. The theme of a dream can be influenced by a myriad of factors, which include the mood of the individual who is dreaming as well as the topic of a prior dream, latest news and other events in the person's life.

In certain situations the dreamer may be able to actively modify the content of a dream, including its outcome. This can be done by a variety of methods, but a common method is to rehearse a rewritten version of the nightmare prior falling asleep.

Latent content

There is a debate over whether there is obvious and undiscovered content within dreams is a subject of debate. Freud said that dreams and latent content are inextricably connected. He also compared dreams with an Iceberg. There's a segment of the iceberg that could be glimpsed above the surface of the water and the part that is hidden under the surface.

Freud believed there are three aspects to the mind. Minds that are conscious constitute the top of the iceberg while the unconscious and the latent mind are the lowest. In his opinion, the best method of observing the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two kinds of dream content: manifest and latent. This latter type includes the actual dream content along with the meaning of it. Sometimes, it's just composed of memory fragments and a succession of symbolic events. In theory it's possible to transform this manifest information into latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's belief about dreaming is that dreams are wishes fulfilled. This implies that all humans are neurotic. Additionally, Freud stated that dreams cannot be real, but it is a means of obtaining a substitute for reality.

The dream's content is divided into two sections: the manifest and latent. The manifest part is an actual dream content, and it is the latent part in the dreams. The content that is manifest originates from processing information. The latent content are hidden desires , and also different types of hallucination.

There are four methods that obscure the dream. They are displacement, decryption as well as transference and conceal. The first is displacement. This occurs when a dreamer replaces certain elements from his or its dream with aspects of their dream in the thought-thoughts. It's caused by the weak control of the sleep brain.
