What's a Dream?

Having a dream is the sequence of thoughts, images and emotions. We are all expected to experience around two hours of dreams every night. However, some dreamers perceive their dreams to be more than this.

Theories of the role of dreams

In the past two centuries of existence, a number of theories about dreams have been proposed. These theories are based on the idea that dreams are manifestations by the mind, a psychological process that takes place during the REM stage of sleep.

During this period, the unconscious part of the brain is processing memories. The result is a stream from memory storage that circulates through the conscious portion in the brain. This theory is often referred as the continuous activation theory.

Another theoryis called the"stimulus reaction theory," recognizes the idea that dreams are form of wish-fulfillment. This is due to the fact that dreams symbolize desires that do not come to fruition in real life.

The threat simulation theory suggests that dreams are used to serve an evolutionary goal. In the REM phase of sleep, the amygdala(a part within the fight-orflight area of the brain, responds similarly to when confronted by a danger. This would have been the evolutionary advantage of preparing the human body for threats scenarios.

The REM stage

REM, or rapid eye movement is what we call it when it comes the time to go to sleep. At night brains make the most use of its resources recalling things it's not learned in the daytime. One example is the sexifier. When this is the time, the Octavet is at its peak at this point, making it the ideal time to be around your significant other.

The REM enclave is also home to many of the top brainwaves in today, including more esoteric ones. The most well-known people who reside in REM include insomniacs and depression types. A recent study found that depressed people tend to fall asleep more frequently and for longer durations of time. This can be due to a number of factors, with the most obvious one being the fact that they have an adolescent.

Nightmares

A nightmarish experience can be a terrifying experience. It is usually followed by other unpleasant feelings. They can occur occasionally or regularly. They can also be triggered by stress or trauma. In certain instances they may even be connected to medical issues.

The first step in controlling your nightmares , is to understand the way they function. The theme of a dream can be affected by a myriad of factors, which include the mood of the person who is dreaming or the subject of a previous dream, the news, and other events in the person's life.

In some instances an individual can manipulate the details of a dream, as well as the results. This can be done in a variety ways however the most commonly used method is to try to recreate a changed version of the nightmare prior going to sleep.

Latent content

There is a debate over whether there is manifest and latent content in dreams is a subject of debate. Freud has argued that the two are inextricably linked. He also compared dreams with an Iceberg. There's a portion of an iceberg that can be perceived above the water and the remaining part is hidden below the surface.

Freud believed there were three parts to the mind. Minds that are conscious constitute the high point, while the unconscious mind and latent mind are the bottom. His belief was that the most effective method to look into the subconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two types and types of contents in the dream: manifest and latent. The latter includes the actual dream content along with the significance behind it. In most cases, it's an amalgamation of fragments of memory and a succession of symbolic events. In the theory of physics you can translate an actual message into latent.

Freud's Axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom on dreaming is that dreams can be described as wish-fulfilling. It implies that all individuals are neurotic. Furthermore, Freud stated that dreams can't be real, only that they serve as a substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is split into two parts - the manifest and the latent. The manifest content is the actual content, while there is a hallucinatory aspect of the dream. The content that is manifest is the result of processing information. Latent content can be described as hidden desires as well as different forms of hallucination.

There are four strategies that keep the dream from being revealed. These are displacement, decryption transfers, decryption, and disguise. The first one is displacement. The process occurs when the dreamer replaces certain elements from his or its dream with elements in the dreams. It's dependent on the weakness of the brain that sleeps.
